Life for Ann and her husband was becoming increasingly difficult before moving to Blendworth Hills, an Inspired Villages Retirement Village in Hampshire. Once an active and outgoing couple who loved touring the UK and Europe in their caravan, they found their declining mobility was beginning to limit their independence and confidence.

“My husband’s health was getting worse,” Ann explains. “He was struggling to stand and balance without his stick, and our house and garden had become too big to manage.”

Leaving their family home after felt daunting. “I was very against the idea at first,” Ann admits. But with the encouragement from family – and her husband’s suggestion to visit Blendworth Hills, a retirement village just two miles from their home – she agreed to visit. “I’d seen places that felt like hotels, and I didn’t want that,” she says. “But this was different. It’s a real community; there’s always people to talk to and the staff are always smiling and helpful.”

Moving to Blendworth Hills marked the start of a new chapter for Ann. What began as a practical decision soon became a turning point – not only for her health but for her happiness. “Since moving in, everything has changed. My confidence has grown, my strength has improved, and friends are always around at ours for a catch-up now.” Ann has fully embraced the wellbeing programme at Blendworth Hills. She rediscovered her passion for swimming and now visits the pool three times a week, alongside regular aqua aerobics, strength & mobility, wellbeing walks, and low impact circuit training. “My legs have improved drastically. Aqua aerobics is my favourite; I’m surprised by how much I go!”

Beyond the health benefits, Ann’s friendships and sense of belonging have made the biggest difference. Ann and her husband have become part of a close-knit social circle known as the ‘Friday 5 o’clockers’. “We meet on Fridays, enjoy drinks, food and sometimes a Sunday roast together on the weekends,” she smiles. Whether it’s chatting with neighbours, attending community events, or joining fitness sessions, Ann has found a renewed rhythm of life – one filled with connection and joy.

The move has also reignited their shared love of travel.  For decades, the pair toured the UK in their caravan, exploring new places. When their health began to decline, they feared that chapter had come to an end – but Blendworth Hills has given them the confidence to keep exploring. “We’ve had a touring caravan for thirty years and were always out and about. Now we’ve started going to a static caravan and still enjoy the things we love. It’s given us the freedom to carry on with the life we’ve always loved.”

Established in 2017, Inspired Villages is dedicated to creating vibrant later-living communities like  Blendworth Hills across the UK, helping residents stay active, supported and socially connected for years to come.
