Fabulous feet at 50! Step into the world of medical-grade footcare (and cure your dry feet in less than a week!)
Fabulous feet in your 50s!
We’re all familiar with science-led skincare, right? But, when it comes to our feet, we’re often lagging behind the trends. For many of us, a cursory reach down all the way to the feet with a generic body lotion is as complicated as it gets! However, evidence suggests that even when people do treat their feet, they frequently choose the wrong type of product, not designed to tackle skincare issues that specifically effect this part of the body.
In fact, taking care of your feet is as important as the time and attention we give to our face. The good news is that taking a leaf from the world of advanced skincare, foot care has had a makeover, with scientifically formulated, medical-device grade foot creams offering the best results.
So, what should we be using to treat our feet? As we head into the UK Spring / Summer 2026, podiatrist and Brand Ambassador for Footmender®All in One, Molly Chilvers BS.c MRCPod gives an insight into how you can streamline your foot care and get fast results to step out with confidence:
What is medical grade footcare and why should I try it?
Advances in skincare technology have led to the development of specifically formulated foot creams like Swedish formulation, Footmender® All in One. This medical device class IIa product1 uses a unique, patented formula with six active ingredients that work in synergy and is proven effective to treat and heal four common problems (dry skin, calluses, corns and heel fissures) with one single product.
This fast and effective treatment only needs to be used once a day for a short period of time (usually for only one week), to repair and heal your skin and negates the need to overload your beauty product “stash” (it replaces the need for foot baths, manual or electric foot files and exfoliating socks). This streamlined approach to footcare will also save you ££, as you don’t have to buy multiple products! The aim is to make foot care at home easy so that you can tackle problems and prevent them from reoccurring, quickly – all year round.
How does Footmender work?
The 4-6-8 rule:
4 different uses: treats all foot care problems: dry skin, hard skin, corns and cracked heels in one single product. Frequently people suffer from several different foot issues and then mistakenly and unnecessarily use different methods like foot baths, foot files, exfoliating socks and several types of creams to get rid of the problems. One product will suffice!
6 active ingredients: scientifically formulated to work in synergy , with several actions beside the emollient action most commonly associated with a foot cream
8 different mode of action:
- Antimicrobial effect, prevents regrowth of microorganisms for at least 12h
- Exfoliating action – ability to remove dead skin cells
- Binds and retains moisture in the skin
- Softens the skin
- Reduces skin sensitivity and slows the release of water
- Stabilises skin cell renewal
- Stimulates the healing of cracked skin
- Strengthens the skin’s barrier effect
How often should you use a medical device foot cream?
Foot care actually doesn’t need to be time consuming or costly. With Footmender All in One you only need one daily treatment for a week initially. Generally, you will notice a difference after just one use. So, you won’t feel the need for that last minute, pre-holiday pedicure. I recommend that you treat your entire foot even if you feel that you only have problems in specific areas e.g. cracked heels or hard skin (calluses). Often, people have several different problems simultaneously and almost always in combination with dry feet. Rub in two pumps of cream for at least one minute on each foot, allow the cream to absorb first, and then, if you wish, you can put on socks after treatment (ideally chose socks made of breathable, natural fabric like bamboo or cotton).
Once your feet are restored, use as a “maintenance therapy” product twice weekly to maintain the good results. Without maintenance therapy there is a risk that the problems will gradually return.
Are there medical conditions which affect the feet?
Yes, diabetes can cause foot problems for several reasons. High blood sugar levels can damage the nerves which in turn can reduce feeling in the feet, often referred to as neuropathy. You may also experience pain and/or cramps in your legs or feet.
Those living with diabetes often have circulatory problems, which can lead to a limited or poor blood supply to the feet which has the potential for the body to have problems healing cuts or sores. Diabetics very often suffer from dry skin, calluses and corns on their feet, as well as heel fissures.
Understanding how diabetes affects the feet can help you to avoid complications, and adopting a healthy footcare regime (including checking the feet daily) can ensure you are on top of any potential issues.
I advise using a foot cream specially formulated for your feet, like Footmender® All in One Diabetic which has been specially developed for diabetics and is available to buy directly or on prescription (ask your GP or diabetes specialist).
